POSITION:   LANDSCAPE/GOLF COURSE 2^ND  ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: CCN IS CURRENTLY LOOKING TO FILL OUR LANDSCAPE ASSISTANT POSITION UNTIL THE END OF 2022 SEASON. 2023 SEASON THE LANDSCAPE ASSISTANT WILL BECOME THE 2^ND ASSISTANT ON THE GOLF COURSE AND GROUNDS.

BASIC FUNCTION(S):

SERVES AS A HANDS-ON LEADER FOR OUR LANDSCAPE DEPARTMENT. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE PLANNING AND EXECUTING LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE AND LAWN CARE OPERATIONS. ACTIVELY OVERSEES A STAFF OF UP TO 3-7 CO-WORKERS. EFFECTIVELY TRAINS AND COMMUNICATES OUR EXPECTATIONS TO OUR CO-WORKERS. CONTINUOUSLY INSPECTS FIELD WORK TO ENSURE OUR STANDARDS ARE BEING EXECUTED. COORDINATES WITH OUR EQUIPMENT MANAGER , GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT AND GOLF COURSE ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT TO ENSURE THAT ALL SUPPORT AND SERVICE IS CONDUCTED AND FULFILLED IN A MANNER CONSISTENT WITH THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF COUNTRY CLUB OF THE NORTH.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SUPERVISION OF LANDSCAPE CO-WORKERS TO INCLUDE HIRING, DISCIPLINE, TRAINING, AND PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL PROCESS.
• DETERMINES WORK REQUIREMENTS AND RELATED WORK SCHEDULES. TRAINS SKILLED, SEMI-SKILLED AND UNSKILLED LABOR IN VARIOUS ASPECTS OF LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT.
• RESPONSIBLE FOR ESTABLISHING LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS FOR THE AMENITIES AND OTHER DESIGNATED AREAS TO INCLUDE SCHEDULES FOR SEASONAL PLANTINGS - COLOR.
• INSTALL AND MAINTAIN IRRIGATION SYSTEMS, SEEDING, PEST CONTROL, AND FERTILIZATION, ETC.
• RESPONSIBLE FOR PEST CONTROL, NUISANCE VEGETATION, INSECTS AND OTHER PESTS AFFECTING TURF, TREES, SHRUBBERY, ETC.
• MAINTAINS PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH CONTRACT OWNERS AND CLIENTS.
• RESPONDS TIMELY TO CUSTOMER REQUESTS, COMPLAINTS AND GENERAL FOLLOW-UP INFORMATION.
• ASSIST IN THE PREPARATION OF ANNUAL BUDGET FOR DEPARTMENT AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MEETING BUDGET.

• DEVELOPS AND IMPLEMENTS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES APPLICABLE FOR LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE AND LAWN CARE OPERATIONS.

MINIMUM DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

§  COLLEGE DEGREE IN HORTICULTURE/LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT OR RELATED FIELD.

§  3-5 YEARS’ EXPERIENCE MANAGING A LANDSCAPE OPERATION OF SIMILAR SIZE.

§  MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE IN LANDSCAPE DESIGN THAT INCLUDES A PALETTE FOR SEASON COLOR AND PRACTICAL DESIGN OF SMALL TO MEDIUM LANDSCAPE PROJECTS IN OUR REGION.

§  POSSESSES OR ABILITY TO OBTAIN OHIO PESTICIDE LICENSE.

Company Overview

Losantiville Country Club was founded in 1902 as is a Tom Bendelow designed golf course. The course features bentgrass greens, tees, and fairways. The club is the home course for the University of Cincinnati’s Women’s Golf Team. Currently, the course is in the middle of a Golf Course Enhancement Project that includes new forward tees on every hole, new back tees, reshaping of some fairways, and renovation of every bunker of the golf course.

Job Overview

Under the supervision of the Director of Golf Course Maintenance, the Superintendent will be responsible for all aspects of golf course maintenance.

The Superintendent must be motivated, passionate about the industry, and possess a strong work ethic.

• Knowledge of management and maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, and roughs.
• Works closely with the club’s General Manager and Head Golf Professional on issues related to golf course maintenance.

Primary Duties

• Oversees the day-to-day operations of the golf course, including, but not limited to, mowing the fairways and greens, replacing divots,
• Maintains a safe working environment by training the grounds crew the proper use of all equipment used and compliance with the appropriate regulations (OSHA & EPA)
• Participates in creating annual operating budget and plans for golf course maintenance, and monitoring expenses to ensure they do not exceed the budget.
• Works closely with Director of Golf Course Maintenance in preparing short-term and long-term agronomic strategies to maintenance of the golf course.
• Possess thorough knowledge of the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners, herbicides, and pest control methods & materials.
• Possess thorough knowledge of drainage control methods, watering & irrigation systems, including wells, pumps, and automatic controls.
• Other job duties as assigned by the Director of Golf Course Maintenance. The essential job functions of this job are not exhaustive and may be supplemented.
• Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

Minimum Qualifications

• 3 years’ experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent with extensive knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in golf course grounds maintenance.
• 2-year degree in Turf Management or related field
• Ohio Pesticide Application License or the ability to obtain

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• The duties associated with this position are generally performed in an outdoor setting. Exposure to wet, humid, hot, and cold conditions are frequent.
• Regularly working near moving mechanical parts and heavy machinery.
• Lifting approximately 30 – 50 pounds.
• Prolonged sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and usage of mechanical and power equipment.

Position: 2nd Assistant Superintendent
Course: Sycamore Creek Country Club
Location: Springboro, OH

Sycamore Creek Country Club in Springboro Ohio is currently looking for a 2nd assistant golf course superintendent. The 2ndassistant superintendent works under the golf course superintendent and assistant golf course superintendent in a supervisory capacity. Responsibilities include delegating work assignments, overseeing job performance and inspecting course conditions. 

Functions 

• Oversees the completion of work assignments by crew members and assists with decisions regarding job procedures, work standards and machinery use. 

• Enforces safe working conditions with all job assignments and is responsible for instructing staff on proper equipment use and work methods.

• Reports golf course conditions and all disciplinary problems to the golf course superintendent or assistant golf course superintendent.

Employment standards 

• A two or four year degree in turfgrass management is preferred but not required. 

• Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in grounds construction, landscaped area maintenance work and building maintenance and improvement. 

• Proficiency in computer use, knowledge of Microsoft Office and other applications as specified by supervisor. 

• Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment. 

• Knowledge of agronomy, turfgrass science and the rules of golf. 

• Ability to follow oral and written directions.

• Ability to obtain a pesticide applicator license.

Beavercreek Golf Club is a top-tier public golf course, located in Beavercreek, Ohio. Beavercreek Golf Club opened in 1996, and was designed by Brian Huntley. The Golf Course Superintendent will be responsible for the overall maintenance and upkeep program for a high-volume public golf course in Arlington, OH.
